Software Resources

  • SSEL/CASSEL Software Solutions and Portal: Over the past 3 years, SSEL at Caltech and CASSEL at UCLA have initiated several software projects aiming to provide a set of experimental tools to the researchers in the field of social science. All projects are open-source and JAVA-based. Documentation sites for each of the project are either publicly available already or will be so shortly.
    • Multistage: a modular package, designed to deal with a broad class of multi-stage games, where the stages may be determined by players' play and/or random events.

    • CasselWeb: a web-based subject and experiment management solution.

    • jMarkets: a web-based platform for running large-scale market experiments.

    • MISC: Jury/Cascade program, Play in the Dark, Coase, Public Goods, etc.

  • Commercial Software: The computers in the lab have a variety of caltech-licensed commercial software installed on them. This software includes the Microsoft Office Suite, Mathematica, Maple, Matlab, Scientific Workplace, Microsoft Studio .NET and Internet Explorer.

  • Open Source Software and Academic Freeware: SSEL provides a variety of open source software and freeware to facilitate experimental software development, deployment and testings. The software includes JSDK, Python interpretor, Cygwin, SSH, Netbeans, Perl and Mozilla FireFox.

Hardware Resources

  • SSEL provides 33 Dell Optiplex Desktops with 18inch viewable flatpanel monitors for experimental and research purposes. All machines are running Windows XP SP2 and equipped with floppy, and CDRW-ROM drives. A LexMark network laser printer is available for general use. The lab also provides a DLP Projector for experimenters.
